Mitt Romney heckled by Trump supporters in Salt Lake City airport: ‘You’re a joke’

Sen. Mitt Romney was heckled by a group of Trump supporters in a Salt Lake City airport Tuesday, videos show.

In a video that has racked up four million views on Twitter, Mr. Romney is seen sitting in a terminal at Salt Lake City International Airport when a woman recording with her cellphone quickly approaches him.

“Put your mask on,” the Utah Republican said to the woman.

“Don’t tell me what to do,” the woman responded.

After some back-and-forth about the mask, the woman asked, “Why aren’t you supporting President Trump?”

“I do agree with many things that he is for and I support those things,” Mr. Romney answered.

“Are you going to support him in the fraudulent votes—” the woman started to ask.

“To overturn the election? No, I’m not,” Mr. Romney interjected.

“It’s a long story,” he explained. “But we have a Constitution, the constitutional process is clear, I’ve followed the Constitution, and I’ll explain all of that when we meet in Congress this week.”

“Well, you haven’t supported him and you didn’t even support him in the election,” the woman said.

“No, I did not,” Mr. Romney replied. “For reasons I explained at the time.”

The two continued to argue as Mr. Romney gathered his things and started to leave. The woman and another man continued to heckle the senator as he tried to get away from them.

“You’re a joke,” the woman said. “It’s a disgusting shame.”

Trump is a juggernaut and your legacy means nothing,” the man said.

The exchange lasted less than two minutes.

Another video that has racked up two million views showed a group of Trump supporters purportedly on a flight from Salt Lake City to Washington, D.C., shouting at Mr. Romney, who was apparently sitting off-screen, Fox 13 reported.

“Let him know what we think!” one person yelled before the group chanted, “Traitor! Traitor! Traitor!” for more than 20 seconds.

“Resign, Mitt!” a woman yelled. “Mitt Romney, you don’t listen to your constituents!”

Supporters of President Trump who believe he won the election over President-elect Joe Biden are traveling to Washington to rally Wednesday, when a joint session of Congress will count the Electoral College votes.
