STEM/STEAM advocate and author, Talithia Williams will speak at SLCC for free public event.

Salt Lake Community College will host Dr. Talithia Williams at its 2019 Tanner Forum on Social Ethics. The forum, which is open to the public, will be held Oct. 8 at SLCC’s South City Campus in the Grand Theatre, 1575 S. State Street, Salt Lake City.
Williams is a groundbreaking professor, passionate STEM/STEAM advocate, and author and host of the PBS series, “NOVA Wonders.” Her work with NOVA has been praised by The Los Angeles Times for sending the message “that scientists come in a range of ages, genders, colors and hairstyles.” She is also known for her popular TED Talk titled, “Own Your Body’s Data,” which encourages people to use data as a way to take charge of their health.
Additionally, Williams is the Associate Dean for Research and Experiential Learning and Associate Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College, where she focuses on STEM outreach and the development and application of statistical models to solve real-world problems. She is also the first African-American woman to achieve tenure at the college.
The Tanner Forum is a free event, but tickets are required. Tickets can be obtained online at http://www.slcc.edu/tanner or grandtheatrecompany.com. Seating is first come, first served. Doors open at 6 p.m., and at 7 p.m. Williams will give a presentation followed by a question and answer session. Event attendees needing accommodation are asked to call (801) 947.4722.
